- The Monongahela River and Cheat Lake are great places if you want to get into your kayak and play, or do some fishing. Can you think of a better way to relax and forget about your job or school work?
- If you are looking for slow moving, calm rivers around the region, the best way to find them is to visit American Whitewater and look for information on class I and II rivers.
- Whitewater
- If you are a polished whitewater boater, head on over to Decker's Creek, which runs right through Morgantown. For people from Morgantown this is a very convenient creek to paddle, however, it is a class V run, so experience is essential.
- The Cheat River is a great, versatile river with a portion called the Cheat Narrows. The Narrows is a perfect spot for beginning boaters. The Cheat Canyon is a much more advanced section that is extremely fun for more aggressive boaters. This river is conveniently located only about thirty miles east of Morgantown.
- If you are looking for something unique in this region, you may want to hit to the WISP Resort in Western Maryland to check out what the Adventure Sports Center has to offer. WISP has one of the few white water parks in the nation. It is a quarter mile of adjustable whitewater that pours into a pool at the bottom of the loop in which it runs. Boaters need only take-out at the end of the loop and walk a short distance to get back to the put-in.
